Sustainability Manager (LCA-focused)

Permanent employee, Full-time · Remote, United Kingdom

About the Role
Like any growing and ambitious business, we work in a fast-paced manner and are looking for self-starters who can manage their own workload and shift priorities on a day-to-day basis.
This is no different from the Sustainability Manager role, in which we will expect you to play a pivotal role in originating & building impact at Sourceful.
Our mission is to accelerate the transition to more sustainable supply chains - finding ways to slash emissions, level up the way suppliers deliver environmental AND social impact, and help the businesses we work with stand out as game-changers.
This team is at the heart of delivering this impact, working across the business to ship solutions. We seek to keep the summit in view because it’s important that we’re always building towards a future where every business can be healthy, growing, and sustainable. That’s the future we want to see!
Research & LCA
  • Lead LCA analyses (full product LCAs and LCA-based analyses, including dataset choice and manipulation, modeling, and interrogation/interpretation) and evolution of the Sourceful LCA methodology and tooling (including ISO panel reviews).
  • Generate insights and solution ideas, based on LCAs, to drive and assess decarbonisation actions in the supply chain, eg. challenging material, product design, logistics, and other packaging optimisation problems.
  • Lead focused pieces of research on a mix of broad sustainability and specific supply-chain impact topics to build thoughtful white papers & thought leadership that:
    • produces actionable insights for us to build better supply chains, and engage the businesses we work with;
    • elevates Sourceful as a lead contributor to policy around supply-chain impact; and
    • builds our positioning and our brand on key controversial topics around climate, environmental impact, and supply chains.
  • Build credibility in Sourceful LCA data and insights, eg. by growing our partnerships with leading academics and external authorities in LCA.
  • Keep a pulse on the latest learnings, insights, and initiatives in academia and industry to continually improve our position on sustainable supply chains, our methodologies, and our quality of insights.
Special projects
  • Leading major initiatives oriented around how we elevate our impact. Previous projects have included:
    • building a sustainability position on compostables and other plastic alternatives, for different packaging use cases.
    • critically reviewing the existing carbon removal technology eco-system, alongside a panel of experts, to identify a portfolio of frontier projects we could back as an offset (Sourceful Climate).
About You
Our goal is to build an organisation for top talent to thrive in, with a mission-driven environment for them to do their best work. To that end, we are flexible on your experience and specific skillsets. However, we would generally expect to see:
  • Experienced building LCAs in Excel and in typical LCA tools - at least one of the following: SimaPro, OpenLCA, GaBi. And very comfortable analysing and selecting appropriate datasets in databases such as Ecoinvent, or similar.
  • Passionate about sustainable business – you don’t just talk the talk, you walk the walk with a demonstrable passion for the role businesses can play in solving for a better future.
  • You are a problem solver - you are comfortable dealing with ambiguity and you work hard to find solutions to difficult problems that others might shy away from.
  • A bias to action - you are action-orientated and turn theory into real, near-term action for businesses to deliver impact now.
  • Excellent communicator and relationship builder - you are able to clearly articulate yourself and are experienced working cross-functionally and in building relationships.
  • You’re ambitious, results-driven and have a track record of handling pressure as you grow -  always seeking better ways of doing things and are comfortable in high-growth, scaling environments.

About us

Our mission is to make global supply-chain sustainability more rigorous, transparent and achievable for every business.

Sourceful was founded in 2020 by Wing Chan and Shiran Zheng. Together they had spent years helping build and scale global brands. As they did, it became clear that sustainability poses major challenges for businesses.

Global supply chains are complex. Affordable options are scarce. Reliable data is thin. And the language around sustainability is opaque. With these roadblocks, businesses can't make progress — and they can't address the climate crisis.

Sourceful was created to fix this: to help companies overcome the hurdles they face, reduce their carbon footprint and offer their customers better choices.

We look forward to hearing from you!
